Der US-Elektroautopionier Tesla hat bei Neuzulassungen in Kalifornien schwere Einbußen erlitten. Der gestern veröffentlichte Bericht des Marktdatenanalysten Dominion Cross-Sell zeigt, dass die Zulassungen in Kalifornien im abgelaufenen Quartal um 46,5 Prozent auf 13.584 gesunken sind.
Der große Rückgang ist laut dem Bericht auf die ausgelaufene Steuergutschrift für Tesla-Käufer im Jahr 2019 zurückzuführen. Eine bestehende Steuergutschrift von 7.500 US-Dollar (6.700 Euro) für Elektrofahrzeuge läuft nach 15 Monaten aus, sobald ein Autohersteller 200.000 Verkäufe erzielt hat. Tesla erreichte das im Juli 2018. Der Konzern reagierte nicht sofort auf eine Anfrage zur Stellungnahme.
In China indes treibt der US-Konzern seine Expansion voran und plant nun auch ein Design- und Forschungszentrum in der Volksrepublik. In einer Stellenausschreibung nennt Tesla-Chef Elon Musk als Ziel die Entwicklung von E-Autos passend für den chinesischen Markt. Teslas erstes Werk außerhalb der USA befindet sich im Osten von Schanghai. Seit diesem Monat werden in China gefertigte Fahrzeuge des Typs Model 3 ausgeliefert.
