Rekordjahr 2011
Für den Chiphersteller Intel war 2011 ein Rekordjahr, trotz flutbedingten Lieferengpässen wuchs der Umsatz auch im vierten Quartal. Für das laufende Jahr sind höhere Investitionen vorgesehen.

So konnte Intel im Geschäftsjahr 2011 den Umsatz um 24 Prozent auf 54,0 Milliarden US-Dollar ausbauen. Der Gewinn stieg dabei um 13 Prozent auf 12,9 Milliarden Dollar.
Im Dezember musste Intel noch seine Umsatzprognose senken, da durch die Flutkatastrophe in Thailand Lieferengpässe für Festplatten erwartet wurden. Diese werden für die PC-Produktion benötigt, sodass Intel teilweise auf den Computerchips sitzen blieb. Dennoch konnte der Konzern im vierten Quartal den Umsatz um 21 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahreszeitraum auf 13,9 Milliarden Dollar steigern. Der Gewinn im Schlussquartal legte um 6 Prozent auf 3,4 Milliarden Dollar zu.
Positive Aussichten für 2012
Auch für das laufende Jahr sieht Intel durch neue Produkte gute Wachstumschancen. Mit den kleinen und leichten Ultrabooks, neue Prozessoren für Rechenzentren sowie Chips für Tablets und Smartphones baut Intel sein Angebot aus. Um einen besseren Zugang zu diesen Wachstumsmärkten zu bekommen, werden die Investitionen auf 12,5 Milliarden Dollar für das Gesamtjahr hochgefahren.
Während immer weniger Kunden zum klassischen PC greifen (hier hat Intel einen Marktanteil von etwa 80 Prozent) steigt die Nachfrage nach modernen Tablet-PCs und Smartphones stetig an. Durch das höhere Datenaufkommen dieser Geräte nimmt auch die Nachfrage nach Server-Prozessoren zu.
Im laufenden Quartal rechnet Intel mit einem Erlös von rund 12,8 Milliarden Dollar.
