Formycon ist ein biopharmazeutisches Unternehmen mit Schwerpunkt in der Entwicklung und Vermarktung von Nachahmerprodukten (Biosimilars). Neben der eigenen Produktion übernimmt die Firma auch den kompletten pharmazeutischen Entwicklungsprozess von der Proteincharakterisierung, über die Prozessentwicklung bis zum Qualitätsmanagement und der Durchführung klinischer Studien als Dienstleistung für andere Auftraggeber. Ziel ist es in jedem Fall beim Auslaufen von Patenten eines Originalwirkstoffs, eigene Nachahmer-Arzneistoffe zu niedrigeren Preisen anzubieten. Dabei unterscheiden sich Biosimilars von herkömmlichen Generika, da sie nicht völlig identisch zum Original sind. Aus diesem Grund werden aufwändigere Zulassungsverfahren notwendig.
