Last Wednesday, former president Donald Trump issued a statement claiming that, “If we don’t solve the Presidential Election Fraud of 2020, Republicans will not be voting in ’22 or in ’24.”

Donald Trump Thinks That The Next Elections Will Be Rigged

Why won’t they be voting? Well, according to Trump, they know that just like in 2020, these elections will also be rigged. So, it is imperative that we take the necessary steps to make sure that this never happens again.

On its face, Trump’s statement appears to doom the hopes of many Republican candidates planning to run in 2022, and perhaps even more in 2024, when Trump himself may be running once again for president.

It seems as though this was an act of political suicide. Trump appeared to be threatening to take down the whole national Republican Party because of his own personal political grievance, while also dooming his own chances of returning to the White House.

What would it take to mollify the former president sufficiently that he would declare victory and withdraw his political fatwa? Unless he provides further details, only Trump – and not even his hair-dresser – knows for sure.

Wrecking The Political Fortunes

Is Trump so angry that he is willing to wreck the political fortunes of his fellow Republicans as well as his own? And what would it take to persuade him to back off his threat?

I think, perhaps as a minimum, he will require that the Republican-controlled legislatures of Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin – all purple states that voted narrowly for Joe Biden – declare that the election was rigged in their respective states. That would “prove” that Trump was the true victor of the 2020 election.

While that could conceivably happen before the 2022 congressional election, would it be enough to convince Trump to shift gears and then urge Republican voters to go to the polls?

But well before that, many Republican congressional candidates will realize that Trump’s voter suppression strategy might well drag them down to defeat. Maybe it might even dawn upon Trump himself that he was killing his own chances of regaining the presidency in 2024.

His least favorite niece, psychologist Mary Trump, has observed that her uncle is incapable of dealing with defeat. But in the end, the former president is faced with a hobbesian choice – either accept defeat in 2020, or face an even greater defeat in 2024.
