Tesla's Big Hit and Miss
Electric vehicle and battery innovator Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) reported first-quarter 2021 earnings on Monday. The company beat estimates at the bottom line, delivering record-high net income and growing revenue significantly year over year. But investors were left somewhat underwhelmed, with the stock losing almost 5% since the release.
Tesla continues to struggle with delivering meaningful profits from its core business -- manufacturing and selling cars -- and instead drew huge windfalls from selling regulatory credits and Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC). So despite the earnings beat, the company's Q1 success may not be exactly as advertised.
