Sovereign Metals: Malawi’s Minister of Mining Visits Kasiya Rutile Project


August 16, 2021 – Sovereign Metals Limited (the Company or Sovereign) is delighted to have had the opportunity to host Malawian Government officials at the Company’s operations in Malawi. The discussions and a site visit were led by the Company’s Managing Director, Dr Julian Stephens who was in Malawi over the past few weeks.

 

The Government delegation was headed by Malawi’s Honourable Minister of Mining, Mr Rashid Gaffar visiting the Company’s Kasiya Rutile Project (Kasiya), where the core drilling program continues.

 

The Company also held discussions with the Republic of Malawi’s Right Honourable Vice President, Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima providing an update on Kasiya and plans for its development.

The Honourable Minister of Mining Mr Rashid Gaffar commented “The Government of Malawi is committed to developing the mining industry and fully supports Sovereign Metals’ efforts on their high-quality minerals projects like Kasiya that have the potential to contribute significantly to the country’s economy.”

Managing Director, Dr Julian Stephens met with The Right Honourable Vice President, Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima. The Right Honourable Vice President was updated on the recent Kasiya Mineral Resource Estimate which confirmed the project as one of the world’s largest rutile deposits and on the continued progress of the Scoping Study targeted for completion by end of the year.

 

Malawi’s Minister of Mining, The Honourable Mr Rashid Gaffar, visited the Kasiya Rutile Project with a Government delegation that also included the Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Mines. Dr Stephens led the visit to the two-rig core drilling program at Kasiya and the Company’s logging and sampling facilities at the nearby town of Santhe. This was followed by a visit to the Company’s laboratory facilities in the capital city of Lilongwe, to demonstrate Sovereign’s sample processing flowsheet for drill samples.
