Deadline to Claim the New Mexico Stimulus Check of $400 is Just Days Away
Thousands of low-income New Mexico residents are eligible for a relief check of at least $400. However, the deadline to claim the New Mexico stimulus check is now just days away. Eligible low-income residents have until October 7 to apply for the relief checks.

Lawmakers approved this direct payment program earlier this year and set aside $10 million for it. The New Mexico Human Services Department administrating the program started accepting applications on September 26.

“Many low-income New Mexico families have experienced substantial economic and personal losses, “Angela Medrano, Deputy Secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department, said in a statement. “These funds will help people in our communities who need the extra money to help feed and house their families.”
To claim the New Mexico stimulus check, the applicant needs to be a New Mexican resident. Applicants need to provide their name (first and last name), address, bank account and routing number with their application. Further, applicants also need to have a New Mexico driver's license, social security number, or an individual taxpayer identification number.
Eligible residents will get the payment either via direct deposit or mail. Applicants who don’t provide their banking details will get the payment via mail, which is expected to be sent out by the end of November.
As of now, it isn’t known how many households will get the payment or the exact income ranges that will qualify, but the final amount will depend on the number of applications. The payment reportedly will first go to the residents with the lowest incomes.
So, those who haven’t yet applied need to hurry up as the application closes on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at 5 p.m. To claim the New Mexico stimulus check, applicants need to visit the New Mexico Human Services Department.
After residents submit their application, they will get a confirmation number, and later they will be informed whether or not they will receive the payment. The payment is expected to arrive by the end of November to those who applied within the deadline.
Not The First This Year
Prior to this relief check, New Mexico had already issued a rebate payment of up to $1,500 this year. This rebate was the result of two tax rebates spread out over three payments. New Mexico passed the first rebate bill during the legislature’s regular session and the second one during a special session.
The payment from the first legislation went out in July, while the payment from the second legislation was split into two parts. Eligible residents got the first part in May or June, and the second part in August.
“This summer we’ll be returning hundreds of millions of dollars in relief to families around New Mexico, protecting their paychecks and helping them cope with the rising prices of gas, groceries and other household expenses,” Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said previously.
