Die US-Behörde FDA führt ersten Untersuchungsergebnissen zufolge den Ausbruch auf geschnittene Zwiebeln zurück. Taylor Farms, ein Zulieferer der Burgerkette, rief daraufhin mehrere Chargen gelber Zwiebeln zurück. McDonald's nahm laut Angaben der FDA in zwölf Bundesstaaten geschnittene Zwiebeln vorübergehend teilweise oder komplett aus dem Sortiment.
