Das boomende Cloud-Geschäft hält Microsoft auf Wachstumskurs. Im vergangenen Quartal steigerte der Softwareriese seinen Umsatz im Jahresvergleich um ein Fünftel auf 51,7 Milliarden Dollar (45,7 Mrd. Euro).
Das übertraf die Erwartungen der Analysten und Analystinnen, die eher mit rund 50,9 Milliarden Dollar gerechnet hatten. Unterm Strich verdiente Microsoft in dem Ende Dezember abgeschlossenen zweiten Geschäftsquartal knapp 18,8 Milliarden Dollar – ein Plus von 21 Prozent.
Im Cloud-Geschäft mit Software und Onlinediensten stiegen die Erlöse um 32 Prozent auf 22,1 Milliarden Dollar. Bei der Cloud-Plattform Azure, mit der Microsoft unter anderem mit Amazon um die Gunst kleiner und großer Unternehmen konkurriert, wuchs der Umsatz um 46 Prozent.
Anleger sind da allerdings Zuwächse von mehr als 50 Prozent gewohnt. Die Microsoft-Aktie verlor nach Vorlage der Zahlen im nachbörslichen Handel zeitweise gut fünf Prozent.
