Barrick Gold hat den Ankündigungen Taten folgen lassen. Demnach trennt sich weltgrößten Goldproduzent von weniger profitablen Projekten und verkauft drei australische Minen an den Konkurrenten Gold Fields.
Im Zuge des deutlich gesunkenen Goldpreises will Barrick Gold sein Portfolio "optimieren". Hierfür hat der weltgrößte
Goldförder angekündigt, die Produktion in weniger profitablen Minen zu drosseln oder im worst case komplett zu schließen. Soweit möglich, sollten aber auch Käufer für diese Produktionsstätten gefunden werden. Dies ist den Kanadiern nun gelungen. Denn der Konkurrent Gold Fields erwirbt für 300 Millionen Dollar die australischen Projekte "Yilgarn South", bestehend aus den drei Minen Granny Smith, Lawlers and Darlot. Für Barrick macht dieser Deal durchaus Sinn.
