Ein wichtiges Thema auf der Hauptversammlung war der geplante Zusammenschluss von Essilor mit dem italienischen Ray-Ban-Hersteller Luxottica sein. Durch die Fusion entstünde ein Unternehmen mit einem Gesamtumsatz von über 15 Milliarden Euro und über 140 000 Mitarbeitern. Der neue Konzern soll Essilor-Luxottica heißen. Luxottica ist der weltgrößte Brillenhersteller und wurde 1961 von dem Mailänder Leonardo Del Vecchio gegründet.

Essilor verbesserte den Umsatz im ersten Quartal 2017 um 10 Prozent auf 1,96 Milliarden Euro, wie Essilor am 25. April 2017 mitteilte. Auf vergleichbarer Basis stand ein Plus von 2,4 Prozent zu Buche. Für das laufende Jahr wird ein Umsatzzuwachs bereinigt um Wechselkurseffekte von 6 bis 8 Prozent erwartet. Wechselkursbereinigt und Flächenbereinigt wird ein Plus von 3 bis 5 Prozent angestrebt.

Essilor ist ein weltweit operierendes augenoptisches Unternehmen mit Hauptsitz im Süden von Paris. Der Wert ist im EuroStoxx 50 notiert.
