Die Bayer AG kontrolliert einen internationalen Konzern, der in den einzelnen Bereichen weltweit zu den ersten Adressen gehört. Seit 2005 konzentriert sich das Unternehmen auf die Geschäftsfelder Gesundheit (Bayer HealthCare), Ernährung (Bayer CropScience) und hochwertige Kunststoffe (Bayer MaterialScience). Bayer HealthCare entwickelt, produziert und vertreibt eine breite Palette von pharmazeutischen und biologischen Produkten bis hin zu Erzeugnissen der Tiergesundheit. Im Juni 2006 wurde dieses Geschäftsfeld durch mehrheitliche Übernahme der Schering AG noch erheblich gestärkt. Bayer CropScience ist in den Segmenten Insektizide, Fungizide, Herbizide und Saatgutbehandlung sehr gut positioniert. Bayer MaterialScience ist ein führender Hersteller von hochwertigen Werkstoffen (z.B. Polycarbonat und Polyurethan) und innovativen Systemlösungen (z.B. Lacke).
