Yamana Gold zählt zu den fortgeschrittenen Goldproduzenten und ist hauptsächlich in Brasilien, Argentinien, Chile, Mexiko und Zentralamerika tätig. Yamana hat insgesamt 7 aktive Minen und 5 Entwicklungsprojekte, und beschäftigt 8.700 Mitarbeiter. Ziel ist es die Produktion von derzeit rund 1 Mio. Unzen Gold jährlich im Jahr 2009 auf 1,4 Mio. Unzen und bis 2012 auf 2 Mio. Unzen Gold jährlich zu steigern. Yamana hat sehr geringe Cashkosten von 182 Dollar pro Unze, und vermeldete am 24. Dezember 2008, dass man seine flüssigen Barmittel auf 500 Mio. Dollar steigern konnte. Das Unternehmen verkauft seine Goldproduktion nicht auf Termin und profitiert somit überproportional vom Ansteigen des Goldpreises.
