SriLankan Airlines calls upon the services of AKKA Technologies for the interior design of its planes

Lyon, 22th November 2013 - SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka's national airline, partners AKKA Technologies, European market leader in the field of aeronautical engineering, to enhance the cabin amenities and interiors of its planes.

The award-winning national carrier that has a route network of 65 destinations in 35 countries ranging from Europe, Middle East to Far East will be joining oneworld global travel alliance early next year.

SriLankan Airlines, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kapila Chandrasena said, “SriLankan has always been embracing new technology to ensure utmost comfort and a hassle-free journey to its passengers. It is this novelty together with traditional Sri Lankan warmth and hospitality that enriches the SriLankan experience. Product enhancements such as these will surely play a vital role in the Airline's route to progress.”

The project will mainly focus on the Design and Certification of A330-200 planes. Aeroconseil, a subsidiary of the AKKA Technologies Group, will be handling the design and certification of changes to the equipment involved in replacing the seats and the IFE (In Flight Entertainment) installation for Y / C seats for four of SriLankan Airlines' A330-200s. The services provided by AKKA Technologies for SriLankan Airlines include developing the service bulletin and the engineering package needed to carry out the work on the plane, designing, producing and supplying EASA modification kits and certification from the local authorities for the modification, developing updates for the aircraft maintenance documentation and addition operational documents and technical coordination with suppliers for Inflight entertainment and seats.

This contract demonstrates AKKA Technologies' ability to play an integral role in installing new seats and innovative IFE systems for major carriers. AKKA Technologies thus plans to forge a long-term relationship with SriLankan Airlines Sri Lanka's “flag carrier” airline and operator, and to respond to the company's growing needs.

  • Innovative cabin design and layout solutions:

The wide range of airplane design and interior design skills boasted by AKKA Technologies and its subsidiaries Aeroconseil and MBtech is based on expertise in: design, digital modelling, assessing interior design concepts, colour & trim and modelling. AKKA Technologies is involved in different innovative space layout concepts as well as work on the initial design ideas for plane interiors.

AKKA Technologies and its subsidiary MBtech use hugely effective viewing technology to suggest different layout configurations incorporating 3D components and electrical elements. The solution interfaces directly with the PDM system (Product Data Management) to access real development and design data. This means that clients can assess the cost of any changes to the configuration immediately, both for the initial design and the reorganisation of the cabin.
