OL GROUPE : MARIANO DIAZ JOINS OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS

Olympique Lyonnais has acquired striker Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid for €8 million plus an earnout of 35% of the capital gain of any future transfer.

Mariano has signed a five-year contract with Olympique Lyonnais, i.e. until 30 June 2022.

Born in Barcelona on 1 August 1993, Mariano Diaz played his first league match with Badalona in the 2011/12 season at the age of 18, before joining Real Madrid in 2012.

Mariano was the Second Division's top scorer in 2015/16 with Real Madrid Castilla (25 goals in 29 matches) and last year joined the team managed by Zinedine Zidane, who was also his manager at Castilla. He participated in 13 matches with Real Madrid, scoring five goals and sharing the La Liga championship and Champions League titles.

Olympique Lyonnais is very pleased to welcome Mariano, considered one of Real Madrid's rising stars. He had expressed his desire to play at the highest level starting with the forthcoming season, and was solicited by the most prominent Spanish and European clubs.

Arriving on the heels of Fernando Marçal, Bertrand Traoré and Ferland Mendy, Mariano will help the club achieve its goals of renewing its roster both defensively and offensively with young or experienced players coming to OL for the long term.
