New Stadium : 3 appeals rejected by the Lyon Administrative Appeal Court
Lyon, 11 June 2013
The Lyon Administrative Appeal Court today rejected three appeals seeking the reversal of the Administrative Court's 5 July 2012 decisions.
These decisions had validated the 23 May 2011 decree issued by the Health and Sports Minister putting Olympique Lyonnais' new stadium and related infrastructure on the list of "public interest" sporting facilities.
The “public interest” declaration for the Stade des Lumières and its related infrastructure, published in May 2011, is testimony to the importance of the project and its active role in regional development as well as to the development of facilities dedicated to French sports.
Today's decision of the Lyon Administrative Appeal Court confirms the opinion rendered on 21 May 2013 by the Public Reporting Judge as well as the decisions of the Administrative Court on 5 July 2012.
The Stade des Lumières is a project serving residents of all of Greater Lyon. It will create 2,000 jobs during construction and 1,000 during operation. It will give Greater Lyon the most advanced sports, training, medical, leisure, cultural and artistic facilities and enable Lyon to offer one of the major stadiums for the Euro 2016, which will take place in France from 10 to 16 June 2016.
