Why These Discount-Retailer Stocks Are Crashing Hard Today
Discount retailers that sell consumer discretionary goods are taking an absolute beating right now. Shares of three of the biggest, Burlington Stores (NYSE: BURL), Ross Stores (NASDAQ: ROST), and TJX Companies (NYSE: TJX), were down 23.7%, 18.1%, and 18.95% as of 2:24 p.m. EDT on March 16.
That's essentially double the losses for the broader stock market, on what's looking like it could be the worst day for stocks since either last Thursday or -- more likely at this point -- in more than three decades.
