Why CrowdStrike Holdings Stock Fell 3% in 2021

Shares of endpoint security provider CrowdStrike Holdings (NASDAQ: CRWD) fell 3% in 2021, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. For the sake of perspective, the stock gained 325% in 2020 as the work-from-home trend caused skyrocketing demand for cloud-based cybersecurity protection for remote workforces. Nevertheless, it's little consolation for those who bought CrowdStrike in 2021 amid heightened growth stock volatility.

2021 was a tough go for growth stocks in general, particularly those like CrowdStrike that are growing at an especially fast rate but trade at a high premium. For CrowdStrike's current fiscal year (which wraps up Jan. 31), management expects total sales to jump about 64%, building on the incredible 82% revenue gain the year prior.
