NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) delivered excellent results in 2020 despite some headwinds from the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, the electric utility grew its adjusted earnings per share by 10.5%, which was above the high end of its guidance range. That gave it the power to generate a total shareholder return of around 30%, significantly outperforming the S&P 500. The company expects earnings to continue to increase at a fast pace this year, powered by its industry-leading backlog of renewable energy projects.
