Manz AG: Continued strong demand for efficient production solutions in the battery sector
  • Order from a leading German battery manufacturer to set up a module assembly line in Eastern Europe
  • Order volume in the upper single-digit million-euro range; potential for follow-up order in a similar amount
  • Batteries are to be used in the field of stationary energy storage
  • Manz AG's comprehensive technology portfolio puts the company in an excellent position to meet customers' increasing requirements in the battery sector

Reutlingen, December 14, 2021 - Manz AG, a globally active high-tech engineering company with a comprehensive technology portfolio, continues to record positive order development from the battery manufacturing sector. In the course of the overall steady increase in demand for Li-ion battery systems, Manz AG has now received an order from one of Germany's leading battery manufacturers for an assembly line to produce battery modules from wound round cells. The order volume is in the upper single-digit million-euro range and will affect revenues and earnings next year.

The project is aimed at setting up a module assembly line in Eastern Europe and offers the potential for a follow-up order of a comparable size. The proximity to the Manz locations in Slovakia and Hungary is of great advantage in the realization of the project. Manz AG was also able to convince the customer with its extensive experience gained in similar projects as well as its many years of successful cooperation with the customer in other projects. Production advantages for the customer compared to the competition result in particular from the high precision in the interconnection of the cells by means of laser welding with simultaneously fast cycle times, which are realized by a self-developed, innovative gripper technology. The customer received intensive support from Manz AG already during the conception phase, which enabled the product design of the battery modules to be optimized for mass production.

Martin Drasch, CEO of Manz AG, comments: "As a high-tech engineering company with our innovative and efficient production solutions, we are ideally positioned to benefit from the enormous global demand for battery systems. We can provide our customers with comprehensive advice based on many years of experience and offer the right solution for all processes and production stages. In doing so, as in this case, our solutions are often significantly more efficient than our competitors' offerings."

Among other things, the modular Battery Laser System BLS 500, a flexible laser system that combines the advantages of a standard system with those of an individual solution thanks to its platform approach, makes an important contribution to this efficiency increase. Among other things, the BLS 500 can be used to tightly weld Li-ion battery cells into battery packs or differently shaped battery cans with high strength.
