ESG Investing: Is Facebook a Responsible Investment?


Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) is the world's largest social network, with 2.7 billion people around the globe using one of the company's social media products at least once monthly. Of those, at least 2.1 billion log in to message friends, relatives, and strangers daily. Nearly 40,000 people work at the company full-time, and tens of thousands more serve as contractors. Other than perhaps Alphabet's Google or Amazon, no company touches as many people or exerts as much influence as Facebook.

And it does this with a relatively small number of products:

Facebook has been a cultural phenomenon almost from the beginning. So much so that in 2010, writer Aaron Sorkin wrote a drama about the company titled The Social Network. The film would go on to gross $224.9 million worldwide on a $40 million production budget and win three Oscars (for adapted screenplay, editing, and original score).
