Crypto Crash on Steroids: Cryptocurrency Miners Sink More Than 9% Today
Leading cryptocurrency miners Marathon Digital (NASDAQ: MARA), Hive Blockchain (NASDAQ: HIVE), Bitfarms (NASDAQ: BITF), and HUT 8 Mining (NASDAQ: HUT) all closed more than 9% lower today. This move followed a sharp sell-off in the price of Bitcoin and other influential cryptocurrencies, with Bitcoin trading 5.2% lower over the past 24 hours, as of 4:30 p.m. ET.
Investors also appear to be pricing in ongoing regulatory change in the crypto-mining sector, given last-week's news that prominent Democrat lawmakers are looking into the environmental impacts of mining activity domestically.
