Can Peloton Pull Off This Daring Strategy?


For Peloton interactive (NASDAQ: PTON) investors who were riding high in 2020 and held on, 2021 has been a huge letdown. The stock took off after massive demand when gyms were closed, gaining around 400% in 2020. But it's down 34% in 2021 so far, as of this writing. 

There are several reasons the stock has tanked. One is lessening demand, and another is a treadmill recall. But management's take on future growth during the fourth-quarter conference call added further disappointment.

One of the juicy tidbits in the call was the decision to lower the price of the company's original bike by $400. Is that a way to generate sales, or a desperate attempt to stem faltering demand?
