Amazon Vows to Beat a Paris Agreement Goal With a New Corporate Plan
Facing growing calls from employees to reduce its carbon footprint, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced a sweeping climate-change plan that aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
That's ten years sooner than the goal of the historic Paris climate accord signed in 2015. In 2017 President Donald Trump backed out of the accord, causing much consternation around the globe.
Amazon's new plan, called the Climate Pledge, includes buying 100,000 electric delivery trucks and investing $100 million to save forests, wetlands, and peatlands. It vows to reach 80% renewable energy by 2024, and 100% renewable energy by 2030.
