Die 1983 in Aachen als Ausgründung aus der RWTH Aachen gegründete Firma produziert Anlagen zur Herstellung von Verbindungs-Halbleitern und anderer Multikomponenten-Materialien. Anfangs spezialisiert auf Anlagen zur Herstellung von III-V-Halbleitern wie Galliumarsenid (GaAs) und Indiumphosphid (InP) wurde die Produktpalette Anfang der 90er Jahre um hochtemperaturgeeignete Anlagen zur Herstellung von Galliumnitrid (GaN) erweitert.
