National Grid's Earnings Underwhelm, but There Are Some Silver Linings

The entire investment thesis for National Grid (NYSE: NGG) had been up in the air for a couple of years as management completed the sale of its gas distribution business. Now that the deal is out of the way, investors can focus on the day-to-day operations of the business. While the company's first-half results may not look great on paper, there are some reasons to be optimistic about its future.
