If there's a lesson to be learned from 2022, it's that Wall Street is anything but predictable in the short term. All three major U.S. stock indexes fell into a bear market last year, with the growth-fueled Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) performing the worst (a loss of 33%).

The good news is that the stock market becomes quite predictable when you step back and pan out. Despite stock market corrections being somewhat common throughout history, every previous significant downturn in the major U.S. indexes, including the Nasdaq Composite, has eventually been cleared away by a bull market. As long as you're willing to use time as an ally, corrections and bear market dips can be golden opportunities.
