Is Google About to Accelerate Development of the Quantum Computing Industry?

Quantum computing had a watershed year in 2021. The first quantum computing pure-play company went public via special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), IonQ (NYSE: IONQ). Another SPAC, Supernova Partners Acquisition Company II (NYSE: SNII), is taking quantum start-up Rigetti Computing public. And Honeywell (NYSE: HON) merged its quantum computing unit with quantum software outfit Cambridge Quantum to create the new company Quantinuum (of which Honeywell retains a 54% ownership stake).

Now, according to a recent report from Business Insider, Google parent Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL)(NASDAQ: GOOG) might be getting ready to unleash one of its seed-stage quantum projects into the wild. 2022 could be another big year for quantum computing.
