Google Updates

Among the brands to bet on Android Auto is Honda Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7267), which from the second half of 2022 will launch models including Google's systems. General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), Ford (NYSE:F), Polestar, Volvo AB Class B (STO-VOLV-B), and Renault SA (EPA:RNO) have already agreed.

Consumers can acquire the Polestar 2 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge with factory-installed Google, as well as the Renault Mégane E-Tech. No German manufacturer has budged as “negotiations take time,” says a source from Silicon Valley.

Among the copilot functions that Google has developed, there is one that allows users to find services of all kinds just by using voice commands –without having to touch more than one button. The available services include logistics, entertainment, reading, and answering messages.

Improvements in the Android system used by more than 100 million cars through mobile phones allow drivers to see recommendations of all kinds by Google Assistant. For those who work in the car –taxi drivers, truckers– Android will display the “Work Profile” on which they can check the date and time of their meetings or professional messages.

Another service allows the driver to pay for gasoline by using a voice command at around 2,500 gas stations in the U.S.

According to The Verge, “When their car is safely parked, Android Auto customers can play games from GameSnacks right on their car’s display. For those who don’t recognize the name, GameSnacks is Google’s series of HTML5-based browser games that are meant to be easy to load and play on nearly any device.”

“There are also new updates to Android Auto, which mirrors your smartphone’s display on your car’s infotainment screen.”

“Drivers can select which apps they want to see when they first plug their phone into their car (or when it connects via Bluetooth). This also is designed to cut down on driver distraction.”
