Elmos Semiconductor SE: Dynamic rear light with customized design options for styling and road safety

New Elmos Stand-alone LED driver with embedded animation capability enables cost optimized design options for unparalleled dynamic exterior light animation

Dortmund, March 9, 2022: The fascinating magic of dynamic rear light animation of next gen cars made possible with new Elmos LED driver ICs. Elmos Semiconductor SE extends their product portfolio in automotive exterior LED lighting to enable cost optimized enhanced light design options using embedded dynamic animation with the new Elmos IC E522.88. An embedded non-volatile memory allows customers to store desired individual channel current configurations and animation sequences for dynamic signaling. The E522.88 operates without an external microcontroller thereby significantly reducing the cost of the control unit. Production is expected to start in 2022.

Developed according to the ISO26262 Functional Safety development process, the E522.88 is industry's first stand-alone, multichannel LED controller offering full diagnosis suite to achieve ASIL-B rating at the system level without using a microcontroller. The 16-channel E522.88 LED controller has a maximum output current of 100mA per channel and supports Elmos' patented power management methodology allowing wide supply voltage operating range and ensuring a constant light intensity of the LEDs. In case higher currents are required, channels can be combined to support this requirement. Animation sequences can be programmed at the end of line of the customer and can be triggered by discrete signals in the application.
