Disney Accelerates the European Debut of Its Flagship Streaming Service

Disney (NYSE: DIS) announced Tuesday that it has moved up the date for the introduction of Disney+ to customers in Western Europe. The company said in a press release that the streaming service will launch for customers in the United Kingdom (U.K.), Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland on March 24. The rollout will continue with other European markets, including Belgium, the Nordic countries, and Portugal, this summer.

The company also confirmed the pricing for its European customers, at a monthly cost of 5.99 pounds in the U.K. and 6.99 euros in the other countries, or about $7.82 and $7.76, respectively at current exchange rates. An annual subscription will cost 59.99 pounds or 69.99 euros, or $78.33 and $77.67, respectively. This compares to $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year in the U.S.

This move advances the company's schedule, as it originally planned to introduce Disney+ to Western Europe on March 31.
